The Mill Pond at Charley Mill
|
Charley Mill
A post enclosure farm and mill built in the early 1830s
by Thomas Gisborne who along with Mr Kirkby Fenton
was one of the “improvers” of the Charnwood Forest. The millpond
is fed by a spring called Dunjack Well that is one of the sources of the
Blackbrook. It is said that the mill was not a success due to there being
insufficient water to power it, hence the theory about the culvert from
The Colony Reservoir.
